Eligibility for Medicare Insurance

In order to be eligible for Medicare insurance, you must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident who is 65 years of age or older. There are a few exceptions to that rule. You may also be eligible if you’re under 65 and have a qualifying disability. If you’re under 65 and have End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), you may also be eligible for Medicare.

About Your Medicare Insurance Coverage Options

There are four main types of Medicare plans to choose from:

1. Original Medicare is the government-run health insurance program for seniors. It includes Part A (hospital coverage) and Part B (medical coverage). You can also add on a Part D prescription drug plan.
2. Medicare Advantage Plans are offered by private insurance companies and must cover at least the same benefits as Original Medicare. These plans may also offer additional benefits, including dental and vision.
3. Medicare Supplement Plans are offered by private insurance companies and can help cover the costs that Original Medicare does not, such as deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance.
4. Prescription Drug Plans are similar to Original Medicare Part D but offered by private insurance companies. They can help cover the costs of your prescription drugs.
